What this app collects when you install it on your Shopify store, how it's used, and your rights over your data. Written plainly, no jargon.

Information we collect

When you install 7SEA WebP Converter ("the App"), we access and store the following through the Shopify API:

  • Image metadata: URLs, file sizes, formats, alt text, and conversion history for images in your store. This is required for the App's core function (scanning, converting, compressing, writing alt text, and rolling back images).
  • Image backups: a full-quality copy of each original image before it is replaced, stored so you can restore it at any time with one click.
  • Usage data: the number of conversions and AI alt text generations performed, used to apply plan limits and billing.
  • App settings: the options you choose inside the App (quality preset, output format, auto-convert and auto alt text toggles).

We read your store name to greet you on the App's dashboard; it is not stored. We do not collect, store, or process any data about your customers, and we do not store store owner contact details.

How we use information

We use the information above only to operate the App: converting and compressing images, keeping backups for rollback, writing alt text, showing usage statistics, applying plan limits, and providing merchant support. We do not sell or share your information with third parties for marketing.

What the App changes in your store

Product, collection and blog images are replaced with a WebP (or AVIF) version, placed in the same position, with variant images re-linked; the original image is then removed from your store, and our backup is what a rollback restores. Files-section images are compressed in place, so the file, its name and its link stay the same. No other store content is modified.

Data storage and third parties

App data and image backups are stored on Railway (cloud hosting provider) infrastructure. Billing is handled entirely by Shopify's Billing API; we never see or store your payment details.

AI alt text (optional). When you use the AI alt text features (generate for one image, bulk generate, or "auto-write alt text during conversion"), the public URL of the image and, where available, the product, collection or blog post title are sent to OpenAI (gpt-4o-mini) to produce the description. No other store data is sent, and nothing is sent unless you use these features. OpenAI's API does not use this data to train its models. You can review and edit every generated description, and turn the automatic option off at any time in Settings.

Data retention and deletion

  • When you uninstall the App, stored data for your store, including image backups, conversion history, scan results, alt text jobs, and settings, is deleted automatically.
  • Usage counters (the number of conversions and AI alt text generations used) are kept until Shopify issues the shop/redact request 48 hours after uninstall, at which point they are permanently deleted. This prevents abuse of free plan limits.
  • We honor Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks: customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact. A shop/redact request permanently deletes all data we hold for the store.

Converted and compressed images live in your Shopify store, not with us. Uninstalling the App does not change them, but it does delete our backups, so roll back anything you want restored before uninstalling.

Your rights

You may request access to or deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. Uninstalling the App also triggers automatic deletion as described above.
