The short answer
What is answer engine optimization?
Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring web content so search engines can lift it directly into answers: Google AI Overviews, featured snippets, People Also Ask and voice results. It relies on direct answers near the top of the page, question-based headings, tables, lists and FAQ schema.

How results are tracked
Where answers appear
Three places Google answers for you, or for a competitor.
Each one lifts a different shape of content, so each one gets written for differently.
AI Overviews
A generated summary above the results that cites a handful of sources. It favors pages with clear, direct answers and specific facts it can attribute.
Featured snippets
One extracted paragraph, list or table shown at the top. It usually comes from a page already ranking on page one, formatted the way the question expects.
People Also Ask
Expandable related questions, each answered from a different page. Question-shaped headings with a complete answer underneath are what get picked.
What we do
AEO work, layer by layer.
01
Question map
Search Console, PAA, sales calls
The real questions buyers ask, pulled from Search Console queries, People Also Ask and your sales team, then matched to the page that should own each one.
- Search Console
- People Also Ask
- Sales calls
- Query mapping
02
Answer-first rewrites
The 40 to 60 word block
Every target page opens with a direct answer to its question, written to stand alone when Google lifts it, with the detail underneath.
- Direct answer
- Page intro
- Snippet block
03
Structure
Question headings, tables, lists
H2s phrased the way buyers phrase the question, comparisons and specs in tables, steps in lists, so each section maps to a real query and extracts cleanly.
- Question H2s
- Tables
- Lists
- Comparisons
04
FAQ and schema
FAQPage markup
FAQ blocks on product, collection, service and spec pages, each answer complete enough to quote, with FAQPage schema validated and linked between related answers.
- FAQPage
- FAQ blocks
- Internal links
05
Answer tracking
Who owns each answer, monthly
Target questions tracked for snippet ownership, AI Overview citations and People Also Ask presence, with Search Console impressions and clicks per query reported monthly.
- Snippet tracking
- AI Overviews
- Search Console
Before and after
What an AEO rewrite actually changes.
Same page, same topic. Different structure, and a much better chance of being the answer.
| Element | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Opening paragraph | A brand statement about quality and passion | A 40 to 60 word direct answer to the target question |
| Headings | Labels like "Our story" and "Why us" | The questions buyers actually type |
| Comparisons | Buried in paragraphs | A table with one row per option |
| FAQs | None, or one-line answers | Six to eight complete answers with FAQPage schema |
| Proof | "Industry-leading results" | Numbers, dates and named clients |
D2C and B2B
The questions are different. The structure is the same.
D2C brands
Product and buying questions
- "What size [product] do I need?"
- "Is [product] worth it?"
- "How long does [product] last?"
- "[Product A] vs [product B]"

B2B companies
Spec and supplier questions
- "Which [material] is best for [application]?"
- "What is the lead time for [product]?"
- "What is the minimum order for [product]?"

Questions
AEO questions.
What is the difference between AEO and SEO?
SEO works to rank your page in the list of results. AEO works to make your content the answer Google shows above that list, in AI Overviews, featured snippets and People Also Ask. They use the same pages, but AEO changes how those pages are written and structured: direct answers first, question headings, tables and FAQ schema.
What is the difference between AEO and GEO?
AEO targets Google's own answer surfaces: AI Overviews, featured snippets and People Also Ask. GEO targets answers written by AI models such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. AEO is mostly on-page structure, while GEO leans more on entity signals and third-party mentions. Our AI SEO package runs both together.
Does AEO still matter if AI Overviews mean fewer clicks?
More than before. When Google answers the question on the results page, the brand named in that answer gets the visibility and the trust, even without the click. The clicks that do come through tend to be from people further along. Being the cited source beats ranking third under an answer that names a competitor.
Does FAQ schema still help in 2026?
Yes, though not for the reason it used to. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results for most sites in 2023. The markup still gives search engines and AI tools a clean, structured version of your questions and answers, which makes them easier to extract and quote. We use it alongside visible, well-written answers, never instead of them.
How long does AEO take to work?
Faster than most SEO work, because it usually starts from pages you already rank with. Once a page is rewritten and recrawled, changes in featured snippets and People Also Ask can show within weeks. AI Overviews are less predictable. We track each target question from a baseline, so you can see which answers you won and lost.
Does AEO work for B2B companies?
Yes. B2B buyers search long, specific questions: which material suits an application, what lead times look like, how two options compare, what a minimum order is. Those are exactly the queries Google answers directly. We build answer-first spec, comparison and FAQ content so your company is the one quoted while a buyer is still researching.
How do you measure AEO?
By question. We track a set of target questions and record who owns the featured snippet, which sources AI Overviews cite and whether you appear in People Also Ask, before and after each rewrite. Search Console impressions and clicks for those queries then show whether winning the answer brings in visits, orders or inquiries.
